My mom has lived alone the past few years. Lately we have been noticing that she is starting to be more forgetful. She tells the same stories over and over. Each time she tells a story the details change until the story is not even recognizable as the original story. One day I was at her house and a neighbor was over visiting. She started telling a story that she was remembering as something that I did. But in fact the story that she was telling actually happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. I just had to give the neighbor a shake of my head and a wink to let her know that it did not happen to me. She completely understood. So my husband and I decided that it was time for my mom to move in with us. Before we moved her in, we decided to get a security system from security choice. I am pretty sure that my mom is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. I didn’t want her to be the next face on the news as a missing person. So with a security system, at least I could be alerted if she opened a door to go out of the house. So she will live with us until we can’t take care of her anymore. Right now I don’t want to think about that.
